Some Christmas Cards!

It has been a while since I posted anything - or made anything! It's the end of the term which means it's the craziest time of year for me! But I had my craft group a week ago and made a couple of Christmas cards. Sadly - I think these are the only Christmas cards I'll make! I wanted to make some quick and easy cards that I could make quite a few of. But time is running out so I think I will be buying my cards this year :) I embossed the image and the sentiment on the cards.

Dutch Dare Card Challenge!

I should really be studying but this project has been sitting on my bookshelf unfinished since Thanksgiving (Canadian). And well...it's driving me crazy! I found this idea for decorating a coffee tin to hold prismacolour pencil crayons somewhere on someone's blog. I wish I could link to them but I have no idea where I saw it. I did a lot of embossing on it and I was happy to find out that I could still colour in the sunflowers with prismacolours/baby oil even though they were embossed. And I'm entering this into this week's Dutch Dare Card Challenge since the challenge is to make anything but a card. Here's the finished product:

prismacolour pencil holder

One thing that I did add of my own for this was the dividers. I wanted to somehow keep some of the pencils separated so I cut a cereal box and made four sections for the inside of the can. The only downside to this project is once your pencils get to short they can get lost in the can. I'll probably add something to the bottom of the tin eventually so that the pencils will get a boost :) Here's a view from the top with the pencils:

And then without the pencils:

A Birthday and Friday Sketch Challenge!

It was my husband's grandfather's birthday today and I made him a card. I find making cards for guys really difficult and I have no 'guy' stamps! So I enlisted my husband's help for this card. He draws very well and I asked him to draw me a Lancaster plane from WWII. His grandfather was a mechanic during the war and this was one of the planes he worked on and he loves airplane models so I thought this card would be appropriate! It was drawn on watercolour paper and then I painted it using Distress Inks - painting the camouflage was interesting and I hope it looks realistic enough! The papers are all from K & Co and I'm not sure if you can tell but the bottom paper is a map of the world which I thought worked well!

Here's a close-up of the actual plane. Then again that might be a bad idea - all the imperfections are a lot more noticeable :)

I'm also going to submit this to the Friday Sketcher's Challenge - it's been a while since I've done a challenge!

Thanks for visiting and I do love hearing what you think about the cards!

And...before I go...here's a bookmark that went with the card. It's supposed to be a propeller for a plane - guys seem to get but I'm not sure about it!

Some cards!

I went to a stamping up meeting recently and had fun trying out some new stamps. I really like the daisy one. It's called "Upsy Daisy" and it was stamped with the Stampin Up ink. It was a lot of fun but I'm looking forward to getting back to some Sweet Ebony stamps. I'll be lucky to get anything done in the next few weeks since I'm studying for my last exam!

A few more cards....

It's been a long time since my last post! I'm studying for a major exam again so I rarely have time to make any cards! These are some more cards I made at the weekend retreat a few weeks ago. These again are much more simple and will probably be given to some family members for Christmas as thank-you card gift set.

And this next card gets a lot of comments...some people are really disturbed that I coloured only one of the flowers! But I kind of like the look!

The next one is not quite finished - I'd like to add a sentiment. But someone (ahem...mom) wanted it posted to use as a model! I'm waiting for her to leave a comment one of these days :)

Thanks for visiting!

A Weekend of Cards...

This weekend I went away to a scrapbooking retreat. It was great - I got to sit all day with a wonderful bunch of ladies and make cards! Everyone was scrabooking and I was one of the lone cardmakers but it was a lot of fun. I'm not the fastest of cardmakers - I made a total of 12 cards. I got a lot of teasing for it but it really takes me a while to finish a card - I'm way too much of a perfectionist :)

So I'm making cards for Christmas for people who like "simple" cards. Minimal ribbon, flowers, brads...when I say simple...it's pretty simple. So this is not my typical style of cards but it was still a lot of fun! I do miss all my Sweet Ebony cards and can't wait to make a few this week!

So I'll show a few cards at a time. These three cards are all florals and I was inspired by harvest colours especially since one of the stamps was a sunflower.

Posted by Picasa

I coloured this card with prisma colours and baby oil. You might remember a few weeks back I was annoyed that my prismacolours weren't working for me and that I was giving up on them. Well I brought them along this weekend and tried them with baby oil instead of the odourless mineral spirits. They were great and they blended wonderfully. So I actually ended up making the majority of my cards with them. And the sunflower if from Lizzie Anne Designs - it's from the singles range. I can't claim credit for this card design - I was inspired by Jeanne Streiff at Inky Paws . She makes really beautiful cards. Here's the card that inspired me!

Here's another two cards that I made. The first of these was made with Distress Inks and I layered the centre of the flower so it would pop a little. These stamps are all from Lizzie Anne Designs set called "Le Jardin".

This card was a lot of fun to make. It's coloured with prisma colours and baby oil. I had a hard time making the right sentiment but I really like the way it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my cards! I really do appreciate all your wonderful comments! And thanks also for those who follow my blog - I love stopping in and seeing your new creations as well!

Candy is everywhere!

I really don't go looking for blog candy - it seems to find me and I can't resist it! So here are a couple I've found today:

Jeanette is celebrating 10 000 hits which is super impressive since she started her blog in June of this year! She's made a really cute wallet and is filling it with stamped images, some primas and a Magnolia stamp (Tilda at seaside). Jeanette is super talented - I just found her blog last week and I love seeing her new creations! Her blog candy is open until October 12th!

And... Donalda is also giving away some wonderful blog candy. A new Christmas Whiff of Joy stamp. She is also a very talented lady! Her blog candy is open until October 17th.

I am so bad at guessing games but Desire is offering some wonderful primas and brads! All you have to do is guess how many are in the picture - yikes! There's a lot! Her blog candy is open until October 30th.

A Spoonful of Sugar

I finally had a chance to make a card. Here is one of the newer Sweet Ebony stamps (Sugar Nellie) and it's the first time I've used it! I'm entering it into this week's "A Spoonful of Sugar" challenge . The challenge this week is to use a charm on the card. I had to dig through my beading supplies to find the dragonfly!

Blog candy...

I've found some more blog candy to try for!

Bev is giving away a great Whiff of Joy stamp - Willow with Hot Chocolate! Check out her blog for more info - the competition ends September 22! And be sure to check her cards - I really love Bev's blog!

A Guy Birthday Card...sort of!

cornish heritage farms

It's been too long since I posted a card! My father-in-law's birthday was this past week. I'm not so good at making cards for guys! They always look sooo plain. So I justified putting flowers on his card since he's a gardener! I bought this stamp this past week. I have been planning to order it online for ages but walked into a local scrapbooking store and found it! I have an orange tabby cat and this cat stamp reminds me so much of him. I haven't found too many other cat stamps that I really love. This one is definitely my favourite - especially since the cat is surrounded by yarn. My cat almost died after eating some thread when he was 5 months old! So the stamp is quite appropriate for me :)

cornish heritage farms

The image has been coloured with distress inks - I have collected a ridiculous number of these! The prima flowers I also just bought this week - I love the darker colours. They go perfectly with the tones of the distress inks. And the papers are from K&Co. I wish I had finished this card earlier as there was a card challenge for cats and dogs last week! Thanks for stopping by! I love reading all of your comments!

Sugar Nellie Bookmark!

I haven't been posting lately since I have an exam coming up! But here's a quick bookmark that I made this week - it's the first time I've made something for myself to keep :) I also received some very fun news this week - I went on to the Sugar Nellie blog and saw that they had posted about my blog there! And they are sending me something in the mail :)

The image is another Sweet Ebony from Sugar Nellie and I've coloured her with distress inks. The papers are from K & Co - from a wonderful package of papers from Costco. And the sentiment is a clear sticker from Dollarama - I need to invest in more rubons! I love reading all your comments - once my exam is done I'll check out everyone who has responded this last week! Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet Ebony Cardholder!

I woke early this morning and was pretty productive! I found a tutorial for making a cardfolder and have been waiting to try it. It was so easy and fun! I've only made cards so far - it was fun to make a non-card item. And how convenient that the challenge at "A Spoon Full of Sugar" is to make anything but a card! I'm planning on making a bunch of these for Christmas presents this year. They're supposed to hold about 6 cards and envelopes - about 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Here's the link for "A Spoon Full of Sugar" http://aspoonfullofsugarchallenge.blogspot.com/

Sweet Ebony, Sugar Nellie, Elisabeth Bell, cardholder, A Spoon Full of Sugar

Here's a couple of views from the side. I've put a couple of cards in there so you can see what it looks like with cards inside.

Sweet Ebony, Sugar Nellie, Elisabeth Bell, cardholder, A Spoon Full of Sugar

Sweet Ebony, Sugar Nellie, Elisabeth Bell, cardholder, A Spoon Full of Sugar

If you're interested in making one of these here's the tutorial This was an excellent tutorial but there is one mistake on it. In step 1 she says to score at 8.5 and 6 inches. I don't think this is right - so I scored at 5 and 6 inches and it worked out perfectly.

**Update November 17, 2008 I just found out that the above link for the tutorial isn't available anymore. For anyone interested in making one of these folders there's a thread at SCS which has both a Word and PDF template. The PDF template is especially helpful - it's post #39. You can find it here
***I've never done a tutorial before but I'll try to put one up this Wednesday after my exam is over!

Let me know what you think! I've seen lots of different cardholders out there. If you have any great tutorials/pics/ideas of other cardholders I'd love to hear about them!! Thanks for stopping by!

Distress Inks have ruined me...

Sweet Ebony, Sugar Nellie, Elisabeth Bell

To explain...I really love distress inks. I've been using them exclusively for the last few months. I first saw them on Marlene's blog and loved her cards. She has an awesome tutorial here that totally inspired me and I went out the next day and bought 10 distress inks. I'm up to 16 and want more! I used to paint so the watercolouring is just so much fun for me. So this card...I made it for a challenge at Splitcoast and I'm really not a fan of it! I decided to colour with prisma colours because it had been a long time and they were what got me into stamping. I used to love them. Not so much anymore :) I was so frustrated with this card. I took out my frustrations with the overdone distressing around the Sweet Ebony! I'm wondering if anyone has found this - that you've gotten so used to one way of colouring that you just can't go back anymore? And one more quick question - for those of you that do use Distress Inks what type of paper are you using? I've only used watercolour paper so far :)

The Recipe:
Stamp: Sweet Ebony (Sugar Nellie)
Ink: Ranger, Distress Inks
Embellishments: Flower (Prima), Ribbon from Michaels
Paper: K & Co. (at Costco)

Thanks for stopping by! I just recently added Google Analytics so it's been so much fun to see all the different places in the world that people are coming from! Thanks for all the lovely comments - I read every one - and I do try hard to respond :)

It's my 7 year wedding anniversary...

I feel bad. It's my 7 year wedding anniversary and I'm knee deep in studying for an exam! So I haven't had time to make a nice new card but then again I don't really have any good "anniversary" type of images! I made this card last spring and it's not all that masculine but I really like it. Hopefully my husband will as well :) This was made prior to my stamping addiction and the "love" sentiment is a rubon from Dollarama. It took a long time to cut it out but it looked better that way. Thanks for stopping by!

Sugar Nellie B-day Card & Dutch Dare Card Challenge

My mother-in-law's birthday is coming up so I spent last night working on this card! I really love the new Sweet Ebony (from Sugar Nellie) stamps that have just come out. This is my first time using this one and it's super adorable. I've coloured it using TH distress inks which I still really love. At some point I need to try copics but for now I'll stick to the inks! I started with a SCS sketch(#187) as a guide and then changed it around! I added the dragonflies from Magnolia because the card needed something more. I tried adding some flowers but I just don't have the right colours right now! You can't tell but I popped the dragonflies so they stand out more. I'm also submitting this for the Dutch Dare Card Challenge which this week is to make a card for a girl! I can't think of stamps any more girlie that Sweet Ebony! Thanks for stopping by - I love reading all your comments!

A baby card!

I really should be studying. I have a huge exam coming up but the motivation is just not there today or yesterday :) My friend is going to have her second baby soon - a baby boy. I made her a card ages ago. I really liked it at the time but I'm not sure about it now. It was one of my earlier cards before I started using a lot more stamps. My style has changed a lot since then so it's kind of neat to look back at the earlier cards. I always have a hard time with boy cards - hopefully it's boyish enough! Thanks for stopping by :)

A Spoon Full of Sugar Challenge

I've only entered a handful of challenges but one of my favourites to visit is "A Spoonful of Sugar" since so many cards feature Sweet Ebony stamps. Here is the sketch for this week designed by Debbie:

I've used one of my new Sweet Ebony stamps from Sugar Nellie. I've coloured it using Distress Inks on watercolour paper. The designer paper is from K & Co - it's part of a pack that I got at Costco recently which I would highly recommend! I really wanted a flower on this card but none of them match all that well. This is the closest I could get :) I really liked this sketch - it has more layers than I'm used to but it was a lot of fun! Thanks for visiting!

Great Envelope Tutorial!

I made a card that was way too big for a regular envelope so I had to make one! I found an awesome tutorial from scorpal that was super helpful! Here's the link in case you are interested! I used designer paper so it looked very pretty - but I was in a rush to mail it so I didn't get a chance to take a picture!!

Blog Candy!

I have been very good at not entering blog candy and trying to study for my upcoming exam. But Debbie's candy is far too enticing especially since she's offering a new Whiff of Joy stamp! Please check out her blog here! The contest is open until August 24th!

A Sketch!

card sketch
So instead of studying I've been playing around on Paint and making up a sketch. This is my first time making one of my own - I'm sure it's not all that original :) I haven't yet made a card from it - I'll work on one tonight - and post it soon! If anyone feels like giving it a try please leave a link to your card - I'd love to see it! Thanks for visiting!

Going Away 2

sugar nellie, sweet ebony, elisabeth bell
Well, I'm reposting this card because I wasn't happy with it last night. It really needed a sentiment but I just didn't have a stamp that fit. But I totally forgot about all the rubons that I have! So I'm much happier with this version! What do you think?

I'm not so good at remembering to give details about the card - but I'll try since I know how much I appreciate when others do!

The Recipe:
Stamp: Sweet Ebony "Pen Pal" (Sugar Nellie)
Ink: Ranger Archival
Coloured with: TH Distress Inks - worn lipstick, shabby shutters, faded jeans, dusty concord, tattered rose (skin), vintage photo and brushed cordoroy (hair)
Paper: K & Co.

p.s. I decided while I was at it (and after making the above sketch) to make a sketch for the Sweet Ebony "Pen Pal" card below! Maybe sometime when I'm more organized I'll print out my sketches and put them in a notebook for future reference! If you like it and want to use it - go for it! But please leave me a link - I'd love to see your cards :)

It's been a while since I last posted. I haven't touched my card stuff for a couple of weeks! It's been pretty hectic as I'm studying for an exam. But one of the girls from our youth group at church is leaving for college and I wanted to make her a card. So here it is! It's one of the new Sweet Ebony Stamps from Sugar Nellie! I was so excited to get these but they sat unopened for a couple of weeks!

Dutch Dare - Card Challenge

sweet ebony, sugar nellie, elisabeth bell
Here's a card I made for the Dutch Dare - Card Challenge. It's another Sweet Ebony from Sugar Nellie stamps - this one is my absolute favourite! The challenge was to use only one designer paper on the card - not too much of a challenge for me - I don't usually use more than one! I'm not sure about the sentiment whether or not I like it. But I'll leave it like this for now!
Here's a link to the 5th Dutch Dare Card Challenge.

It's a new day...
