Candy is everywhere!

I really don't go looking for blog candy - it seems to find me and I can't resist it! So here are a couple I've found today:

Jeanette is celebrating 10 000 hits which is super impressive since she started her blog in June of this year! She's made a really cute wallet and is filling it with stamped images, some primas and a Magnolia stamp (Tilda at seaside). Jeanette is super talented - I just found her blog last week and I love seeing her new creations! Her blog candy is open until October 12th!

And... Donalda is also giving away some wonderful blog candy. A new Christmas Whiff of Joy stamp. She is also a very talented lady! Her blog candy is open until October 17th.

I am so bad at guessing games but Desire is offering some wonderful primas and brads! All you have to do is guess how many are in the picture - yikes! There's a lot! Her blog candy is open until October 30th.

A Spoonful of Sugar

I finally had a chance to make a card. Here is one of the newer Sweet Ebony stamps (Sugar Nellie) and it's the first time I've used it! I'm entering it into this week's "A Spoonful of Sugar" challenge . The challenge this week is to use a charm on the card. I had to dig through my beading supplies to find the dragonfly!

A Guy Birthday Card...sort of!

cornish heritage farms

It's been too long since I posted a card! My father-in-law's birthday was this past week. I'm not so good at making cards for guys! They always look sooo plain. So I justified putting flowers on his card since he's a gardener! I bought this stamp this past week. I have been planning to order it online for ages but walked into a local scrapbooking store and found it! I have an orange tabby cat and this cat stamp reminds me so much of him. I haven't found too many other cat stamps that I really love. This one is definitely my favourite - especially since the cat is surrounded by yarn. My cat almost died after eating some thread when he was 5 months old! So the stamp is quite appropriate for me :)

The image has been coloured with distress inks - I have collected a ridiculous number of these! The prima flowers I also just bought this week - I love the darker colours. They go perfectly with the tones of the distress inks. And the papers are from K&Co. I wish I had finished this card earlier as there was a card challenge for cats and dogs last week! Thanks for stopping by! I love reading all of your comments!

Sugar Nellie Bookmark!

I haven't been posting lately since I have an exam coming up! But here's a quick bookmark that I made this week - it's the first time I've made something for myself to keep :) I also received some very fun news this week - I went on to the Sugar Nellie blog and saw that they had posted about my blog there! And they are sending me something in the mail :)

The image is another Sweet Ebony from Sugar Nellie and I've coloured her with distress inks. The papers are from K & Co - from a wonderful package of papers from Costco. And the sentiment is a clear sticker from Dollarama - I need to invest in more rubons! I love reading all your comments - once my exam is done I'll check out everyone who has responded this last week! Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet Ebony Cardholder!

I woke early this morning and was pretty productive! I found a tutorial for making a cardfolder and have been waiting to try it. It was so easy and fun! I've only made cards so far - it was fun to make a non-card item. And how convenient that the challenge at "A Spoon Full of Sugar" is to make anything but a card! I'm planning on making a bunch of these for Christmas presents this year. They're supposed to hold about 6 cards and envelopes - about 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Here's the link for "A Spoon Full of Sugar" http://aspoonfullofsugarchallenge.blogspot.com/

Here's a couple of views from the side. I've put a couple of cards in there so you can see what it looks like with cards inside.

If you're interested in making one of these here's the tutorial This was an excellent tutorial but there is one mistake on it. In step 1 she says to score at 8.5 and 6 inches. I don't think this is right - so I scored at 5 and 6 inches and it worked out perfectly.

**Update November 17, 2008 I just found out that the above link for the tutorial isn't available anymore. For anyone interested in making one of these folders there's a thread at SCS which has both a Word and PDF template. The PDF template is especially helpful - it's post #39. You can find it here
***I've never done a tutorial before but I'll try to put one up this Wednesday after my exam is over!

Let me know what you think! I've seen lots of different cardholders out there. If you have any great tutorials/pics/ideas of other cardholders I'd love to hear about them!! Thanks for stopping by!

Distress Inks have ruined me...

Sweet Ebony, Sugar Nellie, Elisabeth Bell

To explain...I really love distress inks. I've been using them exclusively for the last few months. I first saw them on Marlene's blog and loved her cards. She has an awesome tutorial here that totally inspired me and I went out the next day and bought 10 distress inks. I'm up to 16 and want more! I used to paint so the watercolouring is just so much fun for me. So this card...I made it for a challenge at Splitcoast and I'm really not a fan of it! I decided to colour with prisma colours because it had been a long time and they were what got me into stamping. I used to love them. Not so much anymore :) I was so frustrated with this card. I took out my frustrations with the overdone distressing around the Sweet Ebony! I'm wondering if anyone has found this - that you've gotten so used to one way of colouring that you just can't go back anymore? And one more quick question - for those of you that do use Distress Inks what type of paper are you using? I've only used watercolour paper so far :)

The Recipe:
Stamp: Sweet Ebony (Sugar Nellie)
Ink: Ranger, Distress Inks
Embellishments: Flower (Prima), Ribbon from Michaels
Paper: K & Co. (at Costco)

Thanks for stopping by! I just recently added Google Analytics so it's been so much fun to see all the different places in the world that people are coming from! Thanks for all the lovely comments - I read every one - and I do try hard to respond :)
