A Birthday and Friday Sketch Challenge!

It was my husband's grandfather's birthday today and I made him a card. I find making cards for guys really difficult and I have no 'guy' stamps! So I enlisted my husband's help for this card. He draws very well and I asked him to draw me a Lancaster plane from WWII. His grandfather was a mechanic during the war and this was one of the planes he worked on and he loves airplane models so I thought this card would be appropriate! It was drawn on watercolour paper and then I painted it using Distress Inks - painting the camouflage was interesting and I hope it looks realistic enough! The papers are all from K & Co and I'm not sure if you can tell but the bottom paper is a map of the world which I thought worked well!

Here's a close-up of the actual plane. Then again that might be a bad idea - all the imperfections are a lot more noticeable :)

I'm also going to submit this to the Friday Sketcher's Challenge - it's been a while since I've done a challenge!

Thanks for visiting and I do love hearing what you think about the cards!

And...before I go...here's a bookmark that went with the card. It's supposed to be a propeller for a plane - guys seem to get but I'm not sure about it!

Some cards!

I went to a stamping up meeting recently and had fun trying out some new stamps. I really like the daisy one. It's called "Upsy Daisy" and it was stamped with the Stampin Up ink. It was a lot of fun but I'm looking forward to getting back to some Sweet Ebony stamps. I'll be lucky to get anything done in the next few weeks since I'm studying for my last exam!

A few more cards....

It's been a long time since my last post! I'm studying for a major exam again so I rarely have time to make any cards! These are some more cards I made at the weekend retreat a few weeks ago. These again are much more simple and will probably be given to some family members for Christmas as thank-you card gift set.

And this next card gets a lot of comments...some people are really disturbed that I coloured only one of the flowers! But I kind of like the look!

The next one is not quite finished - I'd like to add a sentiment. But someone (ahem...mom) wanted it posted to use as a model! I'm waiting for her to leave a comment one of these days :)

Thanks for visiting!

A Weekend of Cards...

This weekend I went away to a scrapbooking retreat. It was great - I got to sit all day with a wonderful bunch of ladies and make cards! Everyone was scrabooking and I was one of the lone cardmakers but it was a lot of fun. I'm not the fastest of cardmakers - I made a total of 12 cards. I got a lot of teasing for it but it really takes me a while to finish a card - I'm way too much of a perfectionist :)

So I'm making cards for Christmas for people who like "simple" cards. Minimal ribbon, flowers, brads...when I say simple...it's pretty simple. So this is not my typical style of cards but it was still a lot of fun! I do miss all my Sweet Ebony cards and can't wait to make a few this week!

So I'll show a few cards at a time. These three cards are all florals and I was inspired by harvest colours especially since one of the stamps was a sunflower.

I coloured this card with prisma colours and baby oil. You might remember a few weeks back I was annoyed that my prismacolours weren't working for me and that I was giving up on them. Well I brought them along this weekend and tried them with baby oil instead of the odourless mineral spirits. They were great and they blended wonderfully. So I actually ended up making the majority of my cards with them. And the sunflower if from Lizzie Anne Designs - it's from the singles range. I can't claim credit for this card design - I was inspired by Jeanne Streiff at Inky Paws . She makes really beautiful cards. Here's the card that inspired me!

Here's another two cards that I made. The first of these was made with Distress Inks and I layered the centre of the flower so it would pop a little. These stamps are all from Lizzie Anne Designs set called "Le Jardin".

This card was a lot of fun to make. It's coloured with prisma colours and baby oil. I had a hard time making the right sentiment but I really like the way it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my cards! I really do appreciate all your wonderful comments! And thanks also for those who follow my blog - I love stopping in and seeing your new creations as well!
